Aurangabad. A professor at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad has been booked for allegedly raping a girl student and harassing her parents for over a year. An official provided this information on Wednesday.
He said that the professor’s wife has also been named in the FIR for supporting him as she had allegedly told the complainant that they (both of them) wanted a son from him. He told that this FIR was registered in the relevant sections of Bhadansan in Begumpura police station on Tuesday night. He added that the professor won her trust and allegedly persuaded her to stay with his family at his home in Aurangabad. The officer said that he allegedly raped the professor several times during February 2022 and February 2023 when she was at his house. According to the police, when the complainant told about the crime to the professor’s wife, she Told him that both husband and wife wanted a son from him.
According to the officer, after falling ill, the complainant returned to her home in Buldhana but even after that the professor allegedly continued to harass her over phone and when the woman stopped picking up the call, the professor started calling her father. He said that the woman then told her father about the alleged rape and then they all approached the Vishakha committee of the university. This committee looks into complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace.
The officer said that when the professor was summoned, he went to the complainant’s house and tried to threaten her parents. He said that the university administration recently gave a letter to the complainant and told her that she can approach the police. The victim then filed a complaint against the professor after which a case was registered against him.
