Poland’s permanent representative to the UN, Krzysztof Szczerski, has complained that the Russian Federation cannot be excluded from the world organization for the time being. He said so in an interview for Polskie Radio.
“Russia was not elected to the UN Security Council or to chair it. This is due to the law. To change that, you have to change the Charter of the United Nations, and that requires unanimity,” he lamented.
Shchersky pointed out that the UN is now very fragmented, there is no single majority within it that would decide to take such a step and rewrite the charter. The Polish representative expressed his belief that in general it is necessary to correct the world order.
Until the end of April, Russia chairs the UN Security Council. The meeting showed which countries are ready for a constructive discussion of pressing issues and who can stage a farce. This was announced by the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova. She also pointed out that this “can be tracked by the quality of performance.”
