State Duma plans to change martial law law

– Published on:

The State Duma is considering changing the law on martial law. This is necessary to hold elections in new subjects.

Corresponding changes will be made in the near future, Pavel Krasheninnikov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on State Building, told Vedomosti.

“Now the martial law law does not allow elections to be held if there is martial law in the region. At the same time, the laws on the admission of new subjects to Russia stipulate that elections should be held there in the fall of 2023. All these laws are federal constitutional,” Krasheninnikov explained.

Parliamentary elections in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions are to be held on the second Sunday of September 2023.
