Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Rosatom has launched the construction of the third power unit of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant

Today in Egypt, the construction of the third power unit of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant has begun, in which Russia participates. This was reported in the press service of the engineering division of the state corporation Rosatom.

“We have poured the ‘first concrete’ into the foundation slab of motor unit No. 3. The construction of the third motor unit has moved to the main stage,” the statement said.

During the ceremony, Dr. Amged El-Wakil, Chairman of the Board of the Egyptian Nuclear Energy Authority, noted that work on the project is proceeding according to schedule.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Egypt of the Russian Federation – Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said that Rosatom is fulfilling its obligations to build Egypt’s first nuclear power plant despite the difficult political situation in the world.

Recall that the agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant in El Dabaa was signed in 2015. For these purposes, Russia provided the Egyptian side with a loan of 25 billion dollars. Construction began in the summer of 2022.

The nuclear power plant will consist of four units of 1200 MW each with new generation Russian reactors meeting post-Fukushima safety standards.
