Airfares for domestic flights may increase by 10-15%. Yevgeny Gorbov, an independent aviation market analyst, told Zvezda, commenting on the subsidy cut news. According to him, the main reason will be the approaching tourist season.
“We need to raise prices. The increase in costs may be due to the fact that companies will be afraid of the redistribution of traffic, since it is impossible for planes to remain idle. The second is the next tourist season. That’s the main thing,” says the expert.
Speaking about the reduction in subsidies, Yevgeny Gorbov noted that in this context it should not be seen in terms of reducing airline funding, but as a kind of request for carriers to revise the route network in order to stabilize the domestic passenger traffic.
“If you look at the statistics, then the subsidized destinations, namely the load density of the panels on these directions, it was lower than the threshold value that the airline initially sets when planning flights, no less than 60%. There will be a redistribution of the frequency of flights. Some airlines will reduce or eliminate destinations, allowing others operating on that route to better load ships. We’re not saying there will be a shortage of tickets. There will just be a redistribution of traffic. They will load their abilities more densely,” the analyst added.
Recall that previously it became known that the Federal Air Transport Agency, together with the airlines and constituent entities of Russia, was working on adjusting the route network in order to maintain subsidized flights to the most socially important. This is due to the optimization of regional transport financing.
