The UAE has been granted dialogue partner status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is reported by the United Arab Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“The UAE officially received the status of dialogue partner in the SCO on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization. (…) The highlight of the UAE’s participation was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on SCO membership,” the statement said.
The SCO includes Russia, India, China, Pakistan and four Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India assumed the chairmanship of the SCO Group in September 2022 and is hosting this year.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the number of countries willing to join BRICS and SCO has increased significantly, currently there are about 20.
