The attack on Severny airfield near Ivanovo was planned against A-50 jets, the Russian Federal Security Service reported.
“The objects of the encroachment were the A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft,” the report said.
Earlier it emerged that security forces stopped an attempt to sabotage the facility using drones packed with explosives.
Law enforcement agencies managed to identify a group of saboteurs – their activities, according to the FSB, were coordinated by the special services of Ukraine. The IEDs were to be delivered from Ukraine on a light aircraft from the Chernihiv region.
The pilot, along with saboteurs, were arrested after landing in the Tula region. This happened during the transfer of explosives.
