Karachi: Protests have taken place at several places across the country following the arrest of former Pakistan Prime Minister and Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) chief Imran outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse Mr Imran’s supporters protesting in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. PTI workers damaged government property and torched police vehicles in Charsadda, Karachi, Lahore and other cities after the party called for a Pakistan shutdown to protest Imran’s arrest.
PTI wrote on Twitter, “People of Pakistan, this is your time. Mr. Imran has always stood up for you. Now is the time for them to stand up. Earlier, during the attempt to arrest Mr. Imran, there were clashes between his supporters and security forces. Hanif, the owner of a sweet shop, told local media, “Imran Khan is our ‘red line’. We cannot tolerate even a scratch on them. We will give our lives but will keep Imran free. ,
Several cases have been registered against Imran Khan after stepping down from the post of Prime Minister. Strategic analysts say that the governments of Pakistan have been continuously silencing their opponents. If Imran is convicted in these cases, he will not be able to participate in the elections to be held in Pakistan this year.
