Germany plans to send military aid to Kiev worth 2.7 billion euros in the near future. This was reported by the German magazine Der Spiegel without specifying the source.
Delivery will be made “in the weeks and months to come”. According to the magazine, Germany wants to send Ukraine 20 more Marder infantry fighting vehicles, 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 200 reconnaissance drones, logistics vehicles, IRIS-T air defense systems and ammunition.
As specified in the publication, a new aid package could be announced on Sunday alongside the presentation to Zelenskyy in Aachen of the Charlemagne Prize, awarded for his contribution to the unification of Europe. It is not excluded that he could personally visit Germany. There was no official information about the visit yet, Spiegel added.
At the beginning of the year, Germany authorized the re-export of its equipment. In February, the German cabinet approved the delivery of 178 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine. At the same time, the UN said it does not consider supplying Ukraine with tanks as a move in the right direction.
