The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Macron’s statement on the “geopolitical defeat of the Russian Federation in the conflict in Ukraine”. Russian Federation Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, in a comment released by the department, called the French leader’s statements another attempt at wishful thinking.
Grushko noted that Moscow has long been accustomed to statements about the “inevitable victory of the Kiev regime” and “the Russian economy, which almost collapsed under the sanctions.” According to him, in Moscow, “such ‘prayer spells'” are understood as proof that the political elites of European countries convince themselves “of the correctness of the confrontational course they have taken to destroy the foundations of regional security and international”.
Grushko viewed Macron’s remarks about Russia’s “dependency” on the PRC as an attempt to quarrel with old friends by any means possible. The Deputy Minister believes that Western countries want to “twist the arms of the globalized Southern and Eastern States” so that they forget their own national interests in favor of “the geopolitical ambitions of the former “masters of the world”. According to the diplomat, Western politicians will simply have to accept the strong relationship between Russia and China.
Earlier, Macron referred to Russia’s “geopolitical defeat in Ukraine” and Moscow’s alleged emerging dependence on Beijing.
