Demchuk Artur Leonovich, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Comparative Political Science, Moscow State University, answered questions Runews24 .ru about the recent elections in Turkey and assessed the chances of each candidate to come to power.
According to him, the Turkish electorate will be sharply divided into supporters and opponents of the president. This is not surprising since Erdogan has been in power for three terms.
While many speculated that a second round would be required, the opposition candidate’s supporters argued that he would win it in the first. However, this did not happen.
He considers the results favorable for the incumbent, since he did not receive a fraction of a percent and it is likely that if everyone who came to vote in the first round would vote again.
If Kılıçdaroğlu wins the next election, Turkey will be in what is known as a constitutional impasse. The Parliament will be able to block any initiatives of the President, and the President will have the right to veto the decisions of the Parliament.
