The court imposed a fine of 260,000 rubles on Roizman * in the case of “discrediting” the army

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Yekaterinburg fined politician Yevgeny Roizman* 260,000 rubles. in case of “discredit” of the Russian army. This was reported by the local edition E1.ru, broadcast from the court.

It is on this verdict that the prosecutor insisted the day before, on May 18. As E1.ru noted, the ban on certain actions for Roizman* will remain in effect until the verdict comes into force.

Commenting on the verdict as they exited the courthouse, Roizman* called it unexpected. “I won’t lie. I believe this is an acquittal under the current conditions,” he said.

When asked if he would appeal the verdict, the politician replied: “Honestly? I do not think so. <…> We are sober people, and in the current situation we understand everything.

Roizman* was charged to Part 1 of s. 280.3 of the Penal Code – “discrediting” the army, he was threatened with a sentence of up to three years in prison. According to investigators, in July 2022, during a live broadcast on YouTube, “wanting to destabilize the situation”, he “used negative terms” to describe the military operation in Ukraine. For the duration of the investigation, he was chosen restraint in the form of a ban on certain actions – in particular, he was banned from using the Internet and visiting public places.

During the consideration of the case on the merits, characteristics against Roizman * were transmitted to the court, in particular, Alla Pugachev and Nain Yeltsin.
