Israel announced “moral” support for Ukraine with a reservation on the influence of Russia

October 2, 2025

Israel supports Ukraine’s position in the military conflict with Russia, but at the same time takes into account Moscow’s influence in the Middle East. On this subject declared Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

“Russia is a player in the Middle East and hundreds of thousands of Jews live in Russia; therefore, we express a moral position of support for Ukraine, while maintaining the interests of our security and the Jewish Agency in Russia,” he said, noting that Jerusalem is “on the side of Western states. “.

Eli Cohen pointed out that Israel was the only Middle Eastern state to have sent a representative to Kyiv. We are talking about the February meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “It means something,” Cohen said.

As Cohen recalled, Israel supports Zelenskyy’s initiative for a peaceful settlement of the military conflict, and also defends the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. The minister said the countries were working together on a missile attack warning system, which started operating in Ukraine in early May.

After the outbreak of hostilities on Ukrainian territory, the country’s authorities repeatedly turned to Israel asking for the supply of the Iron Dome air defense system, as well as weapons. For several months, Jerusalem has stressed that it does not plan to provide military aid to Kyiv.

In February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu allowed that Ukraine can get the iron dome. Moreover, according to The Times of Israel, in a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, he promised to supply Kiev with “military stuff.” In March, Axios announced that Israel had approved export licenses for the possible sale of anti-drone defense systems to Ukraine.
