European Foreign Minister Josep Borrell called on Serbia to abandon its close ties with the Russian Federation and support anti-Russian sanctions. According to him, without this, Belgrade’s accession to the European Union is impossible.
Borrell said so at a dinner of Balkan foreign ministers. He endorsed a number of European countries joining the sanctions against Russia and pointed out that the partnership with Moscow, which some countries support, hinders their EU membership.
“We have also pointed out to those who have not yet fully aligned their policies with those of the EU or not at all, in particular Serbia, that maintaining close ties with Russia is incompatible with the process of EU membership and is also detrimental to national interests, ” – TASS reports the diplomat’s words.
Previously, the head of European diplomacy had proposed to add 3.5 billion euros to the military assistance fund for Ukraine. The Fund has already allocated approximately €4.6 billion for these purposes since the start of the special operation.
