More than 80 fire engines were dispatched to the site of the blaze which broke out on Sunday, according to the Philippine Fire Protection Bureau.
Thick black smoke rose hundreds of meters into the sky, while the central post office in Manila (north) was destroyed.
It took firefighters more than 7 hours to bring the blaze under control.
Philippine Post Director Luis Carlos said in an interview with “DZBB” radio that “the building was completely burned down from the ground floor to the fifth floor.”
He added that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire.
This building, which was built in 1926, was considered one of the “tallest buildings” in Manila, according to its website.
