Court convicts man who broke into Pelosi’s office during Capitol storm

The Arkansas man, pictured with his feet on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s desk in her office after joining the mob that stormed the Capitol in 2021, was sentenced to four and a half years from prison.

Richard Barnett, 63, leaned back in his chair, his feet on Democrat Pelosi’s desk as he was photographed by an AFP correspondent.

The image became one of the most famous photographs from the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Barnett joined President Donald Trump’s supporters in storming Congress to disrupt the legislature meeting to certify Joe Biden’s presidential election.


A Washington jury found Barnett guilty of eight counts, including obstructing congressional certification of election results, breaking into the Capitol and disturbing the peace with a dangerous weapon – a disguised stun gun in cane.
