Chinese special representative for Eurasian affairs Li Hui, involved in settling the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, called on European countries to advocate a ceasefire in Ukraine, with Russia retaining its new regions. On this subject writing newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing unnamed Western officials.

Earlier in May, Li Hui visited Kyiv, Warsaw, Berlin, Paris and Brussels. The Chinese diplomat urged European governments to:

to consider China as an “economic alternative” to Washington; act quickly to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine “before it spreads”.

“American allies in Europe should defend their autonomy and call for an immediate ceasefire, leaving Russia in possession of the parts of its smaller neighbor that it now occupies,” was the Chinese diplomat’s message, according to sources. WSJ.

The newspaper’s interlocutors said it was “still too early” to dismiss such efforts from Beijing. They “questioned China’s ability to act as an honest broker in any negotiations, given its close connection to Moscow,” the publication said.

Sources from the publication said that, “in their view, peace will not be possible until Russian troops leave Ukrainian territory.”

TASS May 26 informed that Li Hui arrived at the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he discussed Ukraine with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. meeting, by data RIA Novostilasted about an hour and a half.

Earlier in May, several African countries presented a similar peace plan for Ukraine. Six African heads of state have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine without the withdrawal of Russian troops.

The African mission is headed by the president of Senegal, Maki Sall, the other members of the mission are the presidents of South Africa, Egypt, Zambia, the Republic of Congo and Uganda. At the beginning of June, they plan to visit Moscow and Kyiv.

After that, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced the establishment of a delegation to resolve the situation in Ukraine, which was headed by former Chinese ambassador to Russia Li Hui.
