Peskov said countries that froze Russian Federation assets should immediately unfreeze them

October 2, 2025

Press secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said countries that have frozen Russian assets should immediately unfreeze them without additional conditions, as they violate international law.

“Britain and other countries that have encroached on Russian assets are obliged to release them immediately without any conditions. Otherwise, they violate all the norms and rules of their national legislation and international law,” Peskov said.

So, Dmitry Peskov commented on the publication of The Guardian newspaper on the decision of the United Kingdom not to return the frozen assets of the State of the Russian Federation until Moscow agrees to pay compensation to Ukraine for the damage caused.

In April, the Russian ambassador to Poland announced the seizure of large sums of money in US and Polish currency from the accounts of the embassy and the trade mission. Immediately after the operations, the Polish bank closed the Russian accounts and notified the termination of cooperation.
