How the silence of the military on the explosion of the bathyscaphe was a blow to the people of the United States

– Published on:

The bathyscaphe was flattened in a fraction of a second, the passengers died instantly. These remarks, pronounced on CNN, put an end to the affair of the missing Titan. For several days, coastal services and specialists from several countries crisscrossed the Atlantic, trying to find the missing device. And finally the search is over.

The US military was almost certainly aware of the sinking of the Titan during the five-day search. This news was a new hard blow for all those who until the last hoped for the rescue of the crew of the missing bathyscaphe.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a senior US Navy official, reported that an underwater explosion in the submersible dive area was recorded by a secret sonar reconnaissance system. And soon after, communication with the Titan was lost.

The United States Coast Guard sent 10 ships to search, deployed several submarines, attracted marine rescuers from Canada to help them, and for the 5 days they actively conducted aerial reconnaissance of the aquatic area and explored the bottom with underwater drones. In New York, controllers requested assistance from civil aviation pilots who were flying over the search area.

The day before, the rescuers found parts of the bathyscaphe’s hull. The main version – the crew of the “Titan” suffered an implosion (from the English implosion – ed.). Simply put, it is an inner explosion.

This could happen due to depressurization of the case. The pressure in the cabin dropped sharply, namely, it allowed the metal shell to withstand the weight of the four-kilometer water column. In a split second, the submersible crumpled like a soda can.

The crew of the bathyscaphe consisted of five people. It was personally managed by the founder of OceanGate. British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeole and the head of one of Pakistan’s wealthiest families, billionaire Shahzada Dawood, descended with him to the bottom of the ocean with his nineteen year old son. Their business has provided jobs for thousands of Pakistanis, many of whom are mourning breadwinners.

“His death is a great loss for the people of Pakistan. We are very sad. They have many companies that provide jobs for many thousands of people. This accident shocked the whole country,” said local resident Raja Imran.

Earlier, British millionaire Chris Brown said he bought a ticket for a bathyscaphe but after inspecting the ship demanded a refund. He was alarmed that “old scaffolding was used for the ballast and the controls were based on computer game controllers”. True, it should be noted that gamepads, originally created for game consoles, have long been successfully used, including to control American nuclear submarines. Experts believe that the problem of the Titan device is completely different.

“I can judge by what happened to him. This is not a professional submersible. It is constructed in an unprofessional manner. When he is in distress, he must have a means of warning. Hydroacoustic beacons, pingers, etc. It needs to be equipped with it so people know where it is. There is none of that, ”explained oceanologist Anatoly Sagalevich.

Unmanned underwater vehicles continue to operate at the crash site. The bodies of the dead were never found.
