More than 40 former senior US and NATO diplomats and defense officials on Monday called on Congress to approve new aid to Kyiv.
They warned that Ukraine’s defeat in a war with Russia would be catastrophic for it and would jeopardize the security of the United States and its allies.
Members of The Alphen Group, a group of experts on strengthening NATO and European security, wrote an open letter to Democratic and Republican leaders in the Senate and House of Representatives.
“The United States and its allies must help Ukraine prevent Russia from winning a victory that would be disastrous for the people and the country of Ukraine and threatening the future security of the United States and its allies,” The Alphen Group said in the letter. “This war is at a tipping point at which decisions made by the United States and its NATO allies and partners will determine whether the outcome is favorable to their interests or disastrous for Ukraine and the West.”
“Not continuing US support for Ukraine would be a huge failure of bipartisan foreign and defense policy and would weaken American leadership internationally as well as in Europe,” the letter emphasizes.
