Iran to raise military spending by 200% for upcoming year

The Iranian government has planned to increase military spending by 200% in its new budget draft for the upcoming year 1404 according to the Iranian calendar (begins on March 20, 2025, according to the Gregorian calendar), said Iranian Cabinet spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani.

“The draft budget, which is supposed to cover all the country’s expenses, also took care to meet defense needs. In this regard, we witnessed a significant increase in the military budget – by 200%,” Mohajerani reported as saying by state media.

Mohajerani noted the successful actions of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces during the Israeli strike on October 26 on the country’s military facilities and stressed that to maintain defense power, it is necessary to meet the needs of the defense industry.

In the budget for the current year 1403 (which began on March 20, 2024, according to the Gregorian calendar), the parliament approved the sum of €1.8 billion for Iran’s military expenses.
