The International Criminal Court responds Palestine regarding President’s announcement to withdraw from the agreements with Israel

Dr. Riyad Al-Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants confirmed the response of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court regarding what the State of Palestine submitted in response to the request of the First Pre-Trial Chamber to provide additional information on the 19 May 2020 speech of President Mahmoud Abbas, which was consistent with International law and its principles, as well as the international legal adaptation of the status of the occupied State of Palestine, as an occupied territory, and a member of the International Criminal Court and other international organizations and agreements.

Al-Maliki indicated, in a statement that reached “The Eastern Herald”, that the response is important and clearly a legal, including about the geographical jurisdiction over which the court must exercise its jurisdiction in the occupied Palestinian territory, in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, and he also clarifies that the agreement Oslo does not prevent the exercise of the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.


The international community in Palestine stressed the importance of referring the response to the issue of the illegality of annexation and the continued applicability of the law of occupation.

He demanded Riyad al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Pre-Trial Chamber I, to accelerate the issuance of its decisions and expedite the determination of the geographical jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court on the occupied Palestinian land, in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, so as to contribute to opening a criminal investigation in the case of Palestine, stressing that the State of Palestine will continue to cooperate with international law institutions, including the International Criminal Court, to deter crimes, hold perpetrators of serious crimes against the Palestinian people accountable, and bring justice.
