World Bank President David Malpass will step down by the end of June, months after disagreements with the White House when he declined to say whether he accepted the scientific consensus on global warming.
Malpass, who was named head of the international development bank by President Donald Trump, will leave less than a year before the end of his five-year term.
He did not give specific reasons for his decision, saying, “After long deliberations, I have decided to take on new challenges.”
Last fall he came under fire from the White House when he refused to say he supported the scientific consensus on climate change.
He later apologized and reaffirmed the view that human activity contributes to climate change.
