The collective West has never been as consolidated as it is today, militarily, politically and economically. Europe and the United States were united by Russia, or rather by confrontation with it. However, by isolating Moscow, the coalition has effectively distanced itself as far as possible from the rest of the world like never before. That opinion was voiced by Oxford University political scientist Timothy Ash, whose warnings are published by Politico.
While the conflict in Ukraine has brought Western states closer together, it has also revealed a critical mass gap of billions between the Western perception of Russia and that of other countries outside the US and EU. .
In China, for example, the dominant opinion among respondents (42%) is that the conflict must end as soon as possible, even if Ukraine cedes control of the territory to Russia. This desire to end the war as soon as possible is even more present in Turkey (48%) and India (54%), because, unlike the West, fewer people in these three countries would prefer that Ukraine return all territories. Such data illustrates how, by moving away from Russia, the West has in fact isolated itself as much as possible from the rest of the world. If polls are conducted in Latin America, the results will be even more deplorable for the coalition, the expert is sure. Remoteness from the theater of operations and involvement only in their own urgent problems and tasks make the citizens of this region indifferent to the problems of the Old World.
In other words, the citizens of these countries believe that the future will be determined by fragmentation into different orders. And in this scenario, the West as a whole will be just one of many centers of power – not single-handedly determining the order and directing the regime of global democracy. This is also partly due to a change of opinion on democracy itself.
In part, the gap is also due to radically different ideas about spiritual and political values, a radically different worldview. What globalization has done in recent years, the processes of unification, has been stopped and reversed. And Russia is in no way to blame for this, to which everything can be attributed, but not the disunity of the world. It is the United States and its allies in Europe who are actively engaged in polarizing the global system, asking an unambiguous question with no room for more options.
However, in different parts of the world, most people do not believe in this division, proposed, in fact, by Washington alone. And the most fundamental reason for this is that, from the point of view of Chinese, Turkish or Russian citizens, humanity is entering a multipolar world, shared between many centers of power, and not bipolar, or, even more, a world a monopolar with a hegemon.
