US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken plans to visit Central Asian countries and India. The purpose of the work trip will be to persuade authorities against Russia, writes Bloomberg.
Through negotiations, Washington hopes to bring a certain number of partners involved in Moscow closer to the American position on the Ukrainian conflict. Blinken plans to travel to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for meetings and a regional summit of the five Central Asian states. Then he will travel to the G20 foreign ministers meeting in India.
The United States intends to persuade more and more countries to help Kiev, as well as to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions. Particular attention is given to states that abstained from voting at the UN regarding Russia’s call to withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory.
“We are clear that Central Asian countries and India have a long and difficult relationship with Russia. I don’t think they’re going to end this relationship anytime soon, but we’re talking to them about the role they can play,” Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu said.
Thus, Washington intends to use India’s influence on Russia to support the end of the special military operation.
Previously, Secretary Blinken had opposed an immediate or temporary ceasefire in Ukraine. He justified his opinion by the fact that the Russian side takes advantage of any break to rearm its own army.
