February 25, 2023, 7:00 p.m. – Public Information Service – TEH – British writer Imogen West-Knights said that the craze for tolerance in Western society leads to censorship of children’s literature and distortion of its meaning. She reports this in an article for the American online publication Slate.
Thus, West Knights was outraged by books copyright holder Ronald Dahl’s willingness to make changes to the works of the classic author of British literature. Owning the works of a children’s writer, the publication is working on proofreading the texts, which should make them more attractive to “modern children”. It is supposed to make changes to aspects of the characters in the works such as their race, gender, weight, and sanity.
In particular, West-Knights points out that there are plans to start describing the character of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as “huge” instead of using the word “big”. The writer thinks this is a very odd decision, as his added weight is one of the factors around which the plot is built. Moreover, West-Knights points out that the avoidance of the word “bold” in terms of tolerance is rather odd, as he attributes offensive connotations to it.
Earlier, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, during his message to the Federal Assembly, criticized the initiative of a number of Western churches to consider the gender neutrality of God. According to the president, such measures reflect the decline of Western elites, who challenge traditional values. Read the Public News Service article for more details.
