According to the Philippine National Statistics Office, onion production in the fourth quarter (October to December) of 2022 was 10,578 tons, up 23.3% from the same period last year. The rate of increase was the highest ever for a quarter. Last year, the retail price once exceeded 700 pesos per kilogram, but it has now stabilized due to a recovery in production. The Ilocos region in Luzon produced 9,561 tons, accounting for more than 90% of the total. On the other hand, potato production in the same period was 58,997 tons, up 5.4% year-on-year. Cordillera province accounted for 86.4% of the total production. Sweet potato production was 141,314 tons, an increase of 3.4%, and tomato production was 25,372 tons, an increase of 0.9%. (5th, Star)
