The state company Russian Railways has sent a petition to the EU to lift the sanctions, reports TELMENEWS.RU.
Russian Railways has asked the EU to lift sanctions against the company. They were introduced on February 26 after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. According to representatives of the company itself, due to the sanctions they cannot perform their socially important functions.
The head of the company, Oleg Belozerov, personally came under EU restrictions in December last year. As expected, the company received a refusal from Europe to fulfill the request. The response letter says the sanctions should exert maximum pressure on the Russian Cabinet of Ministers. According to Belozerov, this response goes beyond humanism and the legal realm. The top manager is quoted by TASS.
The official notes that passenger trains with a light hand from the EU have become luxury goods for Russians. A deliberate policy of discrimination is carried out against them. The request, which initially seemed quite naïve, was rejected.
Thus, the enterprise cannot receive foreign-made wagons and equipment. However, not everything is so sad – Russian Railways in the second half of 2023 is waiting for the delivery of an all-Russian analogue of the Lastochka, said Belozerov, head of Russian Railways.
