International organizations are selectively addressing incidents around journalists, which is indicated by the lack of response to the murder of Russian military commander Vladlen Tatarsky. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
He compared this situation with the detention of Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich for espionage and noted the lack of response to the St. Petersburg incident from the international community, including journalistic organizations.
“We think there’s some selectivity in approaching what happens to journalists,” Nebenzya said at a press conference on Monday.
Nebenzya also answered a question about the possibility of a meeting at the UN between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The permanent representative suggested that the Russian side would be ready for a meeting, if requested. Earlier, Blinken called Lavrov about the detention of journalist Gershkovich.
War correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky died in an explosion at a cafe in St. Petersburg, where his creative party was held. Suspected of a crime, they arrested 26-year-old Darya Trepova (Daria Trepova) , who handed Tatarsky a figurine that was allegedly stuffed with explosives. Russia’s investigative committee is investigating the case of the terror attack, the concern was previously expressed to the UN. Tatarsky was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage by decree of President Vladimir Putin. Nebenzya criticized international organizations for the lack of response to Tatarsky’s murder
