The German authorities are considering adopting a law aimed at reducing the electricity consumption of companies in the private and public sectors. Moreover, the magnitude of the savings is truly impressive. According to the document, on which the ruling coalition insists, the volume of electricity consumption should be reduced immediately by 26.5% compared to the level of 2008. This objective should be achieved by 2030.
The new bill provides for mandatory energy savings for all establishments. Companies that consume a certain level of energy resources will need to use “energy management systems” to plan their level of consumption over the long term.
Needless to say, the document being prepared for adoption could end the entire German industry. After all, serious production is impossible without the use of electricity. But it seems that the current German authorities have decided to bury everything the country has been so proud of for several decades.
The stated objective is to become a “climate neutral” economy by 2045. To do this, the German government must reduce domestic energy consumption by 45 TWh per year. Only one question remains: “And how will ordinary Germans react to such government plans?”
