Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Ishaq, Director of Public Art Department at Qatar Museums, said in a statement today that the purpose of the annual open calls is to create awareness about public art and continue to support local talents by creating a space for them to express themselves by proposing and creating public artworks, which paves the way for The way for qualified artists to become part of the story of Qatar and its history through their involvement in the cultural and artistic scene of the country through their artwork.
Qatar Museums announced that artists have the right to submit their ideas in one or more public art initiatives, which include (Jedari Art – Student Public Art Initiative – 5/6 Initiative for the year 2024 – Annual Public Art Initiative for Artistic Intervention).
The Jedari Art program brings artists together to add vitality and meaning to the walls of Doha by decorating them with murals and street art. The program aims to revitalize urban areas and enhance artistic intervention in selected areas, to create new points that people can visit throughout the city. As for the students’ initiative, it is an invitation for university students and graduates to submit a proposal for a permanent or temporary public art work through the link until Thursday, April 20, and participation is open to Qataris and residents.
With regard to the 5/6 initiative for the year 2024, the call is open for artists to present a public artwork directed to everyone who lives in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and also works to spread the spirit of solidarity in society.
