The Finnish government, led by Sanna Marin, will approach Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and demand his resignation. This was announced on the night of April 6 in the office of the Finnish leader.
“Prime Minister Sanna Marin will hand over the government’s resignation to the President of the Republic of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, in Mäntyniemi on Thursday, April 6,” the statement read.
It should be noted that this is not a novel measure. The Finnish government traditionally resigns whenever parliamentary elections are over. Officially acting ministers will continue in office for some time. During this period, a new coalition and a new composition of the Cabinet will be created in Helsinki. It is expected that all changes will be completed in the summer of 2023.
Earlier, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin was forced to admit defeat for her social democratic party in the parliamentary elections taking place in the country. Sanna Marin was 34 when she took office as Prime Minister of Finland in December 2019. At that time, she was the world’s youngest prime minister.
