The media called the motives of the criminal who threw an explosive device at Japanese Prime Minister Kishida

April 18, 2023

According to reports, the man in July last year intended to run for the upper house of the national parliament. However, this was denied due to the age condition and inability to provide the necessary deposit in such cases in the amount of 3 million yen (22.4 thousand US dollars). The fact is that in Japan it is only allowed to run for the presidency of the legislature after reaching the age of 30. Kimura deemed this unfair and filed a lawsuit demanding 100,000 yen ($745) in moral damages. However, that also failed here. The Japanese request was rejected.

Ryuji Kimura threw an improvised explosive device at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on April 15. The incident took place in the fishing port of Wakayama, where the head of government arrived to talk to the population as part of the support for the local candidate of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party on the eve of the participation of the candidate for election to the lower house. of parliament.

The assailant arrived early at the location where the politician was speaking and mingled with the crowd. The man was dressed in light pants, a dark hoodie and sneakers. His face was hidden under a medical mask. In addition, the attacker wore glasses. He had a gray backpack with him.

The Japanese pulled out a cylindrical silver object about 20 to 30 centimeters long and threw it towards Kishida. The explosive device fell at a distance of about one meter from the politician. The Prime Minister noticed it and even turned around to see what was hitting the asphalt behind him. However, the security service did a good job here. One of the bodyguards kicked the explosive device away from the politician with his foot, immediately deployed an armored folding shield and, covering Kishida with him and his body, began pressing the politician into a safe zone. After that, an explosion occurred and large clouds of white smoke appeared.
The assailant was arrested at the scene. One of the strong fishermen standing next to him, about 50 years old, firmly grabbed the slender intruder’s neck and struck him several times with his fist. As it turned out later, he knocked out the second explosive device from Kimura’s hands, which he didn’t have time to use. At this point, the police joined in the arrest. They fell on the criminal and began to wring him to the ground, then dragged him aside. Eventually, the Japanese was escorted into the car and taken to the police station. However, he refused to communicate with law enforcement, saying he would speak only after a lawyer arrived. But even with the arrival of the defender, Kimura didn’t say a word.

As a result of the incident, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was not injured. Moreover, that day he did not change his schedule and continued to speak in public – first in the city of Wakayama, then in the neighboring Chiba prefecture of the metropolitan metropolis. Later, he personally called the fisherman, who helped apprehend the criminal, and thanked the Japanese for his brave actions. After the incident, news emerged of minor injuries sustained by one of the police officers and an elderly man who were in the crowd at the time of the blast.
