The Public Prosecution reveals the results of the investigation regarding the collapse of the Bin Dirham building and refers the accused to court

In a statement issued by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, the Public Prosecution indicated that the investigation procedures regarding the collapse of Building No. (13) located in the Bin Dirham area have been completed.

And in the light of the results of the investigations conducted by the Public Prosecution and the technical report of the committee formed by a decision of the Public Prosecution, which included the following:

1-​What was implemented during the construction of the building was different from what was stated in the design plates, where the thickness of some sections was changed to become 20 cm instead of 25 cm and 30 cm, and the reinforcing steel was also changed in some sections, as the diameters were reduced from 25 mm to 18 mm.

2- Reducing some sections of columns and reinforcing steel during the construction implementation phase has led to the reduction and depletion of safety margins that are usually taken into the design of buildings.

3- The company that carried out the maintenance work did not obtain the required maintenance license.

4- Not evacuating the residents to carry out the main maintenance work for the building’s columns.

5- Safety procedures were not taken into account in the maintenance work, as there were no supports capable of carrying large loads.

6- The company that carried out the maintenance work for the building is not qualified to carry out the required maintenance work.

Whereas the investigations concluded that each of the following is responsible:

The main contractor.

Project consultant.

Building owner.

The company that carried out the maintenance work.

Accordingly, the Public Prosecutor issued a decision to refer the accused to the competent criminal court.
