Liu Shanting is a fruit farmer in southwest China’s Sichuan province. He holds a master’s degree in Electronic Science and Technology from a well-known university in the country. Liu Shanting’s educational qualifications set him apart from other farmers. In these years, China has begun to implement the strategy of rural revitalization, and the conditions for returning to his hometown to start a business are getting better and better. Have been Seven years ago, Liu Shanthing resigned from his stable job at the university, and returned to his hometown to contract 8.6 hectares of land and become a farmer. People in China call a highly educated farmer like Liu Shanthing a “new farmer”. After returning to the village, Liu continues to explore and learn, and tries to organically combine traditional agriculture with modern technology. More than 300 hectares of fruit orchards throughout Sichuan province have benefited for free from the patented drip irrigation technology developed by him. The family farm he established provides about 40 jobs for surrounding farmers every year, and increases per capita income by 10,000 yuan. He developed a local e-commerce platform and used various channels like live broadcast to help farmers sell. He provides agricultural science and technology knowledge to other farmers in various ways, organizes professional volunteers to go to the fields to answer fruit farmers’ questions.
