General Hodges: West wants to seize Crimea to control shipping
Former commander of NATO forces in Europe Ben Hodges said Ukraine and the West needed Crimea to control shipping in the Black Sea.
In an interview with Newsweek, he noted that thanks to the peninsula, “Russia dominates the entire northern Black Sea coast.” That is why Washington and Brussels, he said, must occupy the region by arming the Ukrainian army.
“If you look at the Black Sea, it becomes painfully obvious that Russia can block all ships entering and leaving Ukrainian ports,” Hodges said, referring to readers.
The general considers that the implementation of the plans is important both for the economy of Ukraine and for the European Union as a whole.
Expressed intentions to seize Crimea and Donbass in the Russian Federation have been called suicidal more than once, emphasizing that it is impossible to seize part of the territory of a powerful nuclear power .
