US Department of Energy urged Russia to resume participation in START-3

– Published on:

The head of the US Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration, Jill Hruby, said the US wanted Russia back in START III.

“We have lost a lot from the suspension of their participation in this agreement in terms of stabilization mechanisms. Therefore, we would definitely want them to return to treaty compliance and start discussions on a new treaty that would limit the number of nuclear weapons,” Hruby said.

Moscow currently has no contact with Washington on the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). This was announced by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said Russia’s decision to suspend its participation in START-3 was a big mistake.

Recall that Russian leader Vladimir Putin declared that the Russian Federation was suspending its participation in the Treaty on Strategic Offensive Weapons. He announced the decision in the Address to the Federal Assembly.
