Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said Russia is strengthening its position on the international stage. Moreover, Moscow is finding new allies, although the West is carrying out large-scale attacks on the country, the politician pointed out in an article published by Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to her, one of the important factors in Russia’s foreign policy is the work of Russian lawmakers with colleagues from friendly countries and countries where they do not accept hegemony and diktat. This approach is productive, believes the president of the Council of the Federation.
“Despite the West’s large-scale attacks on Russia with the aim of politically isolating it, we are gaining new allies, strengthening our positions on the international stage,” the publication points out.
Matvienko called for the development of inter-parliamentary diplomacy, which should be “more targeted”. Each meeting must bring a specific result, believes the politician.
Earlier, Valentina Matvienko shared her opinion on why the Russian Federation nevertheless launched a special military operation. According to her, for Russia, the consequences of inaction in Ukraine would be catastrophic. She added that former French President Francois Hollande and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel had been deceiving Russia for many years, while they themselves were preparing Kiev for a conflict with Moscow.
