President Putin signs veteran status law for Donbass militia and other volunteers

– Published on:

Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted veteran status to Donbass militias, as well as other volunteers.

The document was published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

It follows from the text of the document that people who participated in the fighting on the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics since May 12, 2014 are given the status of veterans and the status of disabled persons.

It is also specified that the document grants this status to citizens who have signed a contract with organizations that provide assistance to the Russian armed forces during a special military operation.

Participants in hostilities in the Donbas republics (from February 24, 2022), as well as in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions (from September 30, 2022) fall under the legal norm.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin signed a law that introduces life imprisonment for treason and toughens liability for terrorism.
