The plenary session of the Czech Olympic Committee approved a draft resolution on the possible participation in the 2024 Olympic Games, to be held in Paris, of athletes from the national teams of Russia and Belarus. This follows from the message on the organization’s website.
They act in the Czech Republic against the participation of Russians and Belarusians even in qualifying competitions.
“The COV Plenum does not agree with any form of participation by Russia and Belarus in the selection for the 2024 Olympics, as well as in the tournament itself, during the military conflict in Ukraine,” says the resolution.
In addition, the organization expressed its support for the sanctions previously imposed on Russia and Belarus. Authority to convey the relevant position in subsequent negotiations with the IOC lies with the head of the country’s Olympic Committee, Jiri Keivala.
At the same time, the press service of the Czech Olympic Committee announced earlier that it does not consider the possibility of boycotting the Olympics if Russian and Belarusian athletes are admitted. While, for example, Poland has already threatened the IOC with a boycott if that happens.
Recall, according to IOC President Thomas Bach, that the final verdict on the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the Olympic Games, to be held in 2024 in Paris, will be adopted after crossing the bar a year before the beginning.
