Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Russia and international isolation. New partnerships or Putin’s maneuvers?

“We will not enter into self-isolation, on the contrary, we will develop pragmatic, equal and mutually beneficial partnership relations exclusively with friendly countries from Eurasia, Africa and Latin America,” Putin said. .

Putin also pointed out that Western and American political elites are trying to spoil relations with Russia, while their people and businesses do not want to.

An international affairs expert believes that Putin’s speech on breaking international isolation builds on many of Moscow’s successes in recent times, while a Ukrainian scholar says the Russian president’s speech is an attempt to escape the reality of sanctions and the delay in resolving many battles on the ground in the run up to Kremlin elections. Did Putin really succeed in breaking Russia’s isolation?

International reports

In mid-April, a report by The Economist showed that the number of countries sympathetic to Russia had risen from 29 last year to 35 today, and that countries supporting Russia’s position on the war in Ukraine represent 32% of the world’s population.

In this regard, Russian researcher in the history of international relations, Solonov Plavrev, asserts that official and declared Russian ratios mean a continuous increase in support for President Putin’s decisions and policies and for Russia’s national security in the face of the West. led by the United States.

Solonov-Blavrev added, during his statements to “Sky News Arabia”, that Moscow is still in political and economic expansion, and added: “Western reports themselves now point to Russian economic successes.”

On the home front, Putin has made many gains, including:

The unemployment rate in Russia has fallen to historic lows of 3.7%. Increase the productivity of Russian grain crops to more than 150 million tons, including 100 million tons of wheat. Russia exports unprecedented quantities of grain, about 60 million tons per year. Oil exports to India have increased 22 times over last year.

The Russian researcher in the history of international relations explained that Moscow emerged stronger than before the war, especially since Western sanctions were aimed directly at isolating Russia from the global financial system, limiting the profitability of its energy sector, to reduce its military superiority, and the failure of planning.

Putin’s bet

On the other hand, the Ukrainian camp believes that Putin’s talk of international isolation and Russia breaking it has nothing to do with reality, according to international conflict resolution specialist Matyushin Victor at Ukrainian Tavrysky University.

Matyushin Victor said in statements to “Sky News Arabia” that the Russian President is currently suffering from international isolation from Europe and some countries in Asia and America, in addition to international sanctions, and all this with the approach of the date of the presidential elections next March.

He pointed out that Putin’s talk of international isolation also came after a bloody night and the indiscriminate killing of civilians in Kiev and all cities in southern Ukraine by violent and indiscriminate shelling.

Matyushin Victor also questioned all internal polls in Russia.

The latest opinion poll conducted by the Russian Center for Public Opinion Research showed that 80.1% of Russians trust Russian President Vladimir Putin, while 77.5% of citizens agree with the actions he takes. The results of another public opinion poll, in which 1.6 thousand people over the age of 18 took part and published at the end of March, showed that the Russian president enjoys the trust of 79.3% of citizens.
