The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol said Saturday that a fuel tank in the Crimean port city caught fire, apparently as a result of a drone strike. “According to preliminary information, the fire was caused by a drone strike,” Governor Mikhail Razvogayev wrote on the Telegram app. He also added that no one was injured in the fire. “The situation is under the control of the firefighters and all executive agencies,” he wrote. “Because the amount of fuel is large, it will take time to contain the fire,” he explained. It is noteworthy that the Black Sea Fleet was repelling an attack by Ukrainian marching ships, according to what Razvogayev announced earlier this month.
He said that the defenses of the Black Sea Fleet responded to the Ukrainian air and sea attacks, as a Ukrainian drone ship that tried to penetrate the defenses of the Black Sea Fleet was destroyed. At the time, he pointed out that the Ukrainian attempt failed in the air and sea, and no loss of life or property was recorded.
In contrast, the Ukrainian military has remained silent and has not issued any comment, and Kiev has never previously claimed responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Moscow-controlled territory in Ukraine.
Sevastopol, on the Crimean peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, has been subjected to repeated air attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of its neighbor in February 2022. Russian officials have blamed Kiev for the attacks.
