Altstein says the COVID-19 pandemic is the deadliest in a century

The coronavirus pandemic is the deadliest in the past hundred years since the appearance of the “Spanish flu”. This was stated in an interview with Zvezda by Russian virologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Anatoly Altshtein.

“When we had a ‘flu’ pandemic a hundred years ago, it killed as many people, if not more. Maybe even twice as many people, ”says the specialist.

Anatoly Altshtein notes that at that time there was no such accurate storytelling as today. At the same time, the population of the Earth a hundred years ago was several times lower.

“The number is big, but it was worse. But between the two, there were no epidemics with such losses,” the virologist said, speaking of the mortality from COVID-19.

Recall that today it was learned that the World Health Organization has canceled the pandemic status of COVID – 19 and announced the end of the state of emergency. At least 20 million people have died from the coronavirus during the pandemic, according to the head of the WHO.
