This is not the spirit in which pan-European issues should be resolved,” Tajani wrote on Twitter (blocked in Russian Federation). He said he would not attend a working lunch with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna in Paris.
Earlier on Thursday, Darmanen told RMC radio that Italy’s “far-right” government, led by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, was “unable to solve migration issues”. A spokesperson for France’s interior minister declined to comment, Politico reported.
Diplomats from both countries are currently planning a visit by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to Paris after the G7 summit in May, but ahead of a European Council meeting scheduled for the end of June.
