Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Canada’s Foreign Ministry announces it will expel a Chinese diplomat from the country

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced the decision to expel the diplomat from China after a warning from Canadian intelligence services. She claims that one of the diplomats was involved in the intimidation of a Canadian MP.

“Canada has decided to declare Mr. Zhao Wei persona non grata. I have made it clear that we will not tolerate any foreign interference in our internal affairs,” Joly quoted TASS as saying.

According to The Globe and Mail newspaper, the suspect Michael Chong is a member of the opposition Conservative Party of Canada. China imposed sanctions on him in 2021 after the Canadian Parliament recognized the situation of the Uyghur population in China as genocide.

Earlier, it was learned that the Russian Foreign Ministry had barred entry to Russia to 333 Canadian citizens. The list includes athletes who signed a letter on the withdrawal of Russian athletes from the 2024 Olympics and Canadian politicians.
