Former Prime Minister Imran Khan arrested in Pakistan

May 9, 2023

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been detained in the country. This was reported by Geo News TV channel.

According to the channel, the chairman of the opposition Justice Movement party appeared before the High Court in Islamabad to seek bail in several cases brought against him. He was taken into custody immediately after hearing about the embezzlement of Al-Qadeer Trust funds, Geo News added.

Last year, the local parliament passed a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister. The majority of MPs voted for the resolution. In the winter of 2023, a warrant for his arrest without bail was issued due to a consistent failure to attend meetings. Criminal proceedings were also opened against him for terrorism and organization of riots.
