Russian fans removed from stands at Judo World Championship for St. George ribbons

– Published on:

The organizers of the World Judo Championship, which takes place in the capital of Qatar, have asked Russian fans to leave the stands due to the presence of the St. George ribbons. This is reported by the Inside the Games portal with reference to the representative of the International Judo Federation.

It should be noted that fans were asked to remove the ribbons from St. George, but they refused. They were then asked to leave the arena. Moreover, they were banned from attending the World Judo Championship, the portal added.

Recall that the International Judo Federation allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in competitions in a neutral status. Ukraine boycotted the tournament.

Earlier, the IOC chief said that suspending athletes because of their passports does not correspond to the values of the Olympic Charter, so Russian and Belarusian athletes should return to world sport.
