Washington: The ruling Democratic Party in the US on Wednesday introduced a citizenship bill that seeks to end country quotas for green cards and make changes to the H-1B visa system. The ‘American Citizenship Act 2023’, introduced by Congress member Linda Sanchez, outlines the granting of citizenship to all 11 million undocumented immigrants. In this, changes have also been proposed in the employment-based immigration system by eliminating the border of each country.
The bill will make it easier for people with degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from American universities to stay in the country. as well as securing green cards for people working in low-wage industries, allowing dependents of H-1B visa holders to work in the country, and keeping children of H-1B visa holders out of the system. will help prevent it.
The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. Technology companies rely on H-1B visas to recruit thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China. Whereas, Green Card is officially known as Permanent Resident Card. A green card is a document issued to immigrants to the United States as proof that the green card holder has been permitted to reside in the country permanently.
