May 12, 2023

Head of Ukrainian Energoatom Petr Kotin said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) recognizes the need to bypass the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZAES) during a counteroffensive in order not to damage it. They are also responsible for maintaining the integrity of the station, he said in an interview with CNN.

They (AFU) are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the (ZAES). <…> This is fully understood by our military

said Kotine.

In his opinion, it is not necessary to use force in the area of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. It will be enough to block the supply routes of enemy troops to the installation.

It is enough just to cut the connection between the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and Crimea … They will be surrounded by Ukrainian troops, and the only road to Crimea will be taken by us

suggested the boss of Energoatom.

The head of the Zaporizhzhia region, Yevhen Balitsky, earlier announced that authorities in the region would partially evacuate residents of 18 frontline settlements, which the Ukrainian armed forces have begun to shell intensively.

Earlier it was reported that discussions about a possible offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces do not stop in Russian audiences close to the war. At the same time, the Zaporizhia region is called the most likely direction of the strike of Ukrainian troops. Military correspondents and other experts have come to this conclusion, based on available facts and indirect data, somehow indicating such a development of events.
