Islamabad. Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan has blamed Army Chief General Asim Munir for his arrest on May 9 and distanced himself from the violence raging across the country after his dramatic arrest in a court here.
Khan expressed these views during an informal interaction with media persons on the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday, The Dawn newspaper reported on Saturday. Granting protective bail for two weeks, he was barred from arresting him in any case registered anywhere in the country till Monday.
Three different benches of the IHC granted relief to the 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, who was taken to the court amid tight security. Speaking to BBC correspondent during a break, Khan said Said, “It is not the security agencies behind this, but a man, that is the army chief. There is no democracy in the army. Whatever is happening is tarnishing the image of the army.”
Khan said, “And he (Army chief) is worried that if I come back to power, I will remove him. (So) all this is happening directly on his orders.” Khan said he was completely unaware of the developments that took place after his arrest. He claimed that he had learned that 40 people had lost their lives during the two-day protests. Khan said what happened after his arrest was beyond his control.
“How can I be blamed for the incidents that happened while I was in custody?” he asked.
